New in Capsule: find social profiles for your contacts - Story From: Capsule CRM Blog

We've just launched a new feature in Capsule that makes it easy to find your contacts on social networks like Twitter and LinkedIn.

To get this working, you first need to link your Capsule account with your social network accounts so that Capsule can search those networks on your behalf. You can do this by clicking on your username in the top menu bar > My Preferences > Social Integrations. Once you've done that you'll start seeing a notification icon when you view a contact in Capsule that indicates Capsule has found social profiles for your contact. Click on the icon to see the matches and add the social profiles details to your contact.

As part of this release we've also added Google+, Flickr, YouTube and GitHub to the list of social networks that you can record on a contact in Capsule.

We take privacy seriously and Capsule honours the privacy controls of each network when searching for profiles. As a result you'll only see matches where the contact has made their profile public.

I'd love to hear how you get on with this. In particular, if you spot matches that are for the wrong person I'd be grateful if you could email support@capsulecrm.com so that we can take a look at fine tuning our search algorithms.

Bringing Opportunities to Capsule Mobile - Story From: Capsule CRM Blog

First off I’d like to introduce myself. Hi I’m Tom and I’ve recently joined the team at Capsule as a front-end developer. My background was originally working with .NET, Ruby and Node.js and now I’m working in JavaScript and CoffeeScript to make Capsule’s user interface more interactive. I’ve started looking at the mobile application and the first of these updates are now publicly available.

You can now view your open opportunities by tapping the new Pipeline button on the mobile app’s main menu. Tapping on an individual opportunity will take you through, showing more information about it. Opportunities are now listed under notes and emails for individual contacts. Currently, opportunities are only available when your device has a network connection.

List of Opportunities Contact with Opportunities

If you don’t see the new Pipeline link you need to update the app so that you’re running the latest version: in the mobile app go to ‘Settings’ and tap the ‘Check for Updates’ button.

  1. Launch of Capsule Mobile - Story From: Capsule CRM Blog We're pleased to announce the launch of Capsule Mobile for the following devices: iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 Android phones running Android 2.1+ such as Motorola Droid X, Motorola Droid 2, HTC Evo, Samsung Galaxy S BlackBerry phones running BlackBerry OS 6 such as BlackBerry Bold and Torch We're sticking with the beta label on Capsule Mobile for now. It's had extensive testing over the past 6 weeks with help from a small group of beta testers and the feedback has been very encouraging. We figure it's time to open the beta up to all users since we know how popular the mobile application has been on our uservoice forums! Getting it Enter the the following URL into the browser on your phone to install Capsule Mobile: https://[your-account].capsulecrm.com/m Be sure to replace the [your-account] bit with the relevant part from your Capsule account URL. You'll be prompted to enter your username and password and a pop-up message will ask your permission to allow additional storage space to be used on your phone. It may take several minutes for your contacts to be downloaded to your phone. Note that the application will only run on the default webkit browser. It won't run on Opera or Firefox. Adding a short cut to your home screen on Android Bookmark Capsule in the browser Open the bookmarks page Long-press the Capsule bookmark Select Add to Home screen Adding a short cut to your home screen on iPhone Once you've logged into Capsule Mobile you can add a short cut to your home screen by tapping the bookmark button in the middle of the toolbar below the browser and then Add to Home Screen button. A bit of background on the native vs web app decision It was clear by August last year when we started looking at a mobile application that we couldn't just focus on the iPhone. The Android has exploded in popularity and the BlackBerry continues to be a popular choice for business users. We spent time looking at options for our mobile application including building native applications for each platform. The obvious drawback is that each of these platforms has its own unique development and deployment environment. The other drawback is lack of control. For example if we had fixes we wanted to release quickly for a native iPhone app we'd need to wait for Apple to review and approve the update. The great news is that the web browser has rapidly become a potent deployment environment for applications on newer phones especially those using the webkit browser like iPhone, Android, Blackberry 6 and WebOS. It turns out that the webkit browser on the current generation of smart phones is pretty powerful and can offer most of what users have come to expect from native apps. Here are some of the things to expect from our application: Offline storage: Capsule Mobile uses your browser's own internal storage to install a copy of the contacts on your phone. You can access and...

New API documentation - Story From: Capsule CRM Blog

We’ve recently updated the Capsule API pages. The API itself is more or less the same, there’s a few updates and we have improved the design and overall look and feel of the API documentation.

The API closely follows RESTful principles with every resource like person, opportunity or tag having its own URL. Resources can be manipulated using standard REST commands GET (view), POST (create), PUT (update) and DELETE.

We’ll be removing the old documentation shortly so you should update your bookmarks with the new URL. Check it out here: http://developer.capsulecrm.com/

  1. Zoho Wiki Makes Life Comfortable for Technical Writers – Zoho CRM’s Help Documentation Writer Shares her Experience - Story From: Zoho Blogs You would have earlier seen an introduction to the numerous ways in which Zoho Wiki is being implemented within Zoho. Now, a series of blogs will explore each facet of Zoho Wiki in detail. Let me present to you, Pon Pavitra Jothi, the technical writer in charge of Zoho CRM's Help Manuals. For the past nine months, Pavitra is using Zoho Wiki for documenting the Help section. "I was initially apprehensive about how an online wiki could be used for writing software product manuals. But once I started working, I could clearly see Zoho Wiki adding value as a product help authoring tool." - Pon Pavitra Jothi,   Zoho CRM, Technical Writer She adds, "Simple tool : Zoho CRM is an extensive product and needs a lot of help documents. We want to support our customers in the best possible manner. We have around 175 help pages now and it continues to grow. Zoho Wiki is a simple tool to manage such bulky documentation. No geeky stuff. I got started immediately. Easy Editing : Making edits to the documents via the WYSIWYG editor is easy and more importantly, it would be live the moment I updated. This is real helpful especially since Zoho CRM is a rapidly evolving online service and new features getting added all the time. Team Collaboration : Publishing help manuals and user guides always require the content to be shared and involves team collaboration. Zoho Wiki makes interactions with the product development team a breeze. I could set permissions to every page that I created, i.e. publish it or make it private whenever needed. This was helpful when new features were getting ready. I could create a page, keep it private, draft the help content (with all the formatting done), share with my team alone, collaborate to arrive at the correct content and simply make it public (publish) on the day of release. Publishing the document was just a click away. Version Control Advantage : Sometimes, I might mess a document but then, I could always revert to the previous version. Plus, I could compare two versions and figure out the changes. Reliable Search : Using tags was helpful in searching, related content for a topic. Powerful Widgets : I have used a couple of widgets too. For example, many pages needed the same list of Related Links . In case, I had to add more to the list, I didn’t want to go and add it manually in each page where the Related Links were listed. To avoid that, I used a widget and that was easy. Zoho Wiki has indeed increased my productivity. There are many widgets to add YouTube videos, presentations, graphs etc. User Communication & Community building "An important point here is, users can post comments, give their feedback on the content, or ask their questions. As a technical writer, I feel, this ensures a two way interaction (my documentation and the user's feedback on it) which is vital. You see,...

RightSignature now integrates with Capsule - Story From: Capsule CRM Blog

At Capsule HQ we like to stay paper free. We keep all our paperwork digital which in addition to enhancing our green cred, means we never have to go through stacks of papers or filing cabinets to find our documents. So when we needed a process for getting legally binding signatures from employees and partners, we wanted a solution that could load a document from Google Apps and allow it to be signed easily, without printing or scanning. There are a few solutions for this in the market, but the one we choose was RightSignature which appealed to us with fair pricing and a simple, elegant approach. The good news for our customers is that RightSignature have integrated with Capsule and so you can now use RightSignature to easily send contracts, NDA’s, and forms to your customers and other contacts for legally binding e-signature online. You’ll need an account with RightSignature to take advantage of the integration. For detailed instructions on how to link it with Capsule, visit our support page on the RightSignature integration. Capsulecrm.com refresh - Story From: Capsule CRM Blog

We're excited to have rolled out a new design for http://capsulecrm.com.

Technically we've made use of web standards such as HTML5 and you'll find some very smooth CSS3 animations dotted around the site. In terms of content you'll still see familiar pages such as the blog and features page, but we're sure you'll find the new design smoother and easier to navigate.

We've also added the ability to login to your Capsule account through the website. This feature is a response to our customer request and something we felt was useful for the new website.

One final thing you'll find is a video showing off Capsules features on the home page, including a look at the mobile app, just click the play button to watch!

New login on Capsule home page

We hope you like the new design and don't hesitate to give us some feedback!

Into the finals for CRM Idol - Story From: Capsule CRM Blog

We're very pleased that Capsule has made it to the finals of the CRM Idol contest. CRM Idol is a new competition that showcases the best in startups in the customer service area. It's been a great opportunity for us to get extra exposure around Capsule and to get feedback from respected influencers in the CRM industry.

The competition kicked off for us in September and our presentation to the judges in the first round got us through to the finals. You can read what the judges thought about us in their review.

Now the competition has been opened up to a wider set of judges and to the public for voting in the final round. We'd love your vote!

Whatever the outcome of the vote, it's been a great experience (thanks Judges!) and we're very grateful for the chance to introduce Capsule to a wider audience. Good luck to our fellow finalists.

Turn on/off Capsule for Google Apps users - Story From: Capsule CRM Blog

If you have a paid google apps account you now have the possibility to choose which of your users that can see and use the Capsule gmail gadget or not. If you for example have a lot of google apps users but only a few of them user Capsule, why not turn off the gadget for the rest of your users. The gadget will only be there for the relevant users and won't cause confusion for the rest of your google apps users.

What you have to do as administrator of your google apps domain is the following:

  • Go to your google apps dashboard
  • Select the Organisations & users tab
  • Click the Add sub-organization button at the top right
  • Add a sub-organization with an appropriate name ('Capsule Users' for example)
  • Go back to the list with all your users and move the users that need access to Capsule to the Capsule Users sub-organization
  • You move a user by ticking the box next to the user name and then using the Move to menu at the top to move the user to a different sub-organization
  • Once you have moved all the users to the correct sub-organization you can edit the application access
  • You will find your newly created sub-organization on the left hand side
  • Click the Capsule Users sub-organization and then go to the Services tab
  • Now you can override the inherited services access and turn on or off any services you would like, including Capsule CRM

Google has written a blog post about how this all works, you can find it here

Navigation refresh - Story From: The Capsule CRM Blog

We’ve rolled out an update to the Capsule navigation bar. Along with a fresh look for the icons and styling, the new navigation bar improves the way the navigation elements work. With ever increasing screen resolutions we wanted a design that took advantage of the available screen space.  Over 90% of our users have a screen resolution that exceeds 1024x768.  In the previous design the number of recently accessed records that showed across the top was fixed to 5 links.  In the new design this section expands and contracts to show as many recently accessed records as you’ve got space for. In the previous design the search box sat below the navigation bar in the page header.  The new design unifies the search with other navigation links in the navigation bar. And finally, the “more” menu has been removed and replaced with the name of the logged in user which also acts as a drop down menu to provide links to user preferences, help and logout. The new design: As before, the color of the navigation bar is customisable so that you can match Capsule with your brand if you wish.  Here’s an example in blue: The old design for comparison: We’ve taken advantage of a number of CSS3 features in the new design such as transitions and the usual rounded corners and shadows. To get the full experience be sure to use a browser that supports the latest web standards such as Chrome, Firefox or Safari rather than Internet Explorer.
