5 Question Friday: Joey Novak - Story From: Infusionsoft Blog

5 Question Friday - Joey Novak This week’s 5 Question Friday is about one of our talented developers, Joey Novak. Joey helps make our e-commerce features work correctly and helps make our beta Email Builder awesome. When he’s not coding and making your app better, he’s tinkering with different projects to keep his mind sharp. I asked him to do a quick email interview and I’ll share his answers with you.

1. What do you do at Infusionsoft?

I attend meetings…  just kidding… I spend most of my time split between fixing and preventing bugs and developing new features off the backlog (queue of changes in the app).  Currently, I’m on the marketing development team and spend my time enhancing our new email editor named the “Email Builder.”

2. So, why did you come to Infusionsoft?

I used to work at a lame job writing Bakery Management software for a different company. The code was horrible, the managers were over bearing and controlling, and the place was almost a “Toxic Energy Dump” as defined in Fish. I decided to look for some place better and a good friend of mine set me up with an interview at Infusionsoft. I immediately fell in love with Infusionsoft’s clear goals and focus on the customer. I’ve never worked anywhere before where the goal of the company was to improve the lives of others, and making money was just a means to the end.

3. What else are you known for?

I build stuff; whether it’s code, wood, steel, electronics, I love to build it.  Currently I’m finishing up a sweet mid-engine pickup truck I’ve dubbed the “ShoTruck”. I’ve been working on it for a few years (I’ll get some pics up tonight). I also love innovating and trying out new stuff with Infusionsoft. I also really enjoy helping customers by resolving issues they’ve experienced. I love the satisfaction that comes from knowing you’ve helped someone’s life become a little easier.

(Editor’s note: Joey also recently uncovered interesting stats on how AWeber displays their email deliverability to users.)

4. What’s your passion outside of work and can you tell us more about it?

See above.  I love building, stuff.  Once I finish my ShoTruck I want to build a trike from a front-wheel drive car.  The driver seat will sit very low to the ground, with handlebars up at shoulder level.  The goal is to have a trike that is like riding a kids “Big Wheel” instead of the usual motorcycle style. It should be a lot of fun to drive.

5. What are a few new projects you’re working on now?

I’m working on the new Infusionsoft PHP SDK, hunting down and eliminating some hard to find bugs through our app. My wife and I purchased a house recently, so we are working on all the usual new home owner stuff (unpacking, painting, fixing little things, etc). I have an old golf course reel mower I’m restoring, and we recently bought an old used Saturn that I am brainstorming and designing how to change to a hard top convertible. It should be fun!

Thanks, Joey for sharing what you do and what you’re working on. You can see some of Joey’s work in our Shopping Cart setup and keep up with his latest musings on his personal blog.
